Harvest Home 06:03
Many roads I have travelled, Many hard times I have known, Carrying the weight of the world, And feeling so alone. I don't know what it is about you, maybe I know you from another life that's flown, Whatever it is, I don't want to lose you, Don't leave me here to weep and moan. Bring my harvest home. Won't you come and stay with me, Won't you come and stay with me, Won't you come and stay with me, Be my one true love. Now you see who I am, as you gaze into my eyes, And I see who you are, And I'll never tell you lies.We met again in springtime, When the daffodils had grown, With the warmth of summer sunshine, Bring my harvest home, From the time of Summer Solstice, Bring my harvest home.

You'll never hear a nightingale if their home's no longer there, Destroyed by a developer, who doesn't really care, Despite their claims otherwise about biodiversity, Ripped up hedges, bulldozed land's the reality I see. Who will stop the destruction of so many trees? Who will save the birds, the butterflies and bees? It comes down to the protesters, To campaigners, like you and I, We cannot let them kill our world, We cannot let it die. They've killed the trees in Sheffield, And it's happening across the UK, Big business doesn't care about nature, Despite what they may say. Businessmen and councillors don't care about a green city, They care about making targets, They care about big money. Who will stop the destruction of so many trees? Who will save the birds, the butterflies and bees? It comes down to the protesters, To campaigners, like you and I, We cannot let them kill our world, We cannot let it die.

I had a butterfly in my beard, oh, yeah, I had a butterfly in my beard, oh, yeah, I had a butterfly in my beard, It looked pretty strange, it looked pretty weird. I had a butterfly in my beard, oh, yeah. They called me the "Bugman" on the news one time, They called me the "Bugman" on the news one time, They called me the "Bugman" on the news, A hissing cockroach on my head got plenty of views, They called me the "Bugman" on the news one time. Make a butterfly and fly with me, say "Yeah," Make a butterfly and fly with me, say "Yeah," make a butterfly and fly with me, Go anywhere and be really free, make a butterfly and fly with me, say "Yeah." Yeah!

Usually 04:10
Usually the newspaper's better left unread, Usually there's too much going on in your head, Usually you're wishing that you'd stayed home in bed, With someone there, usually. Usually I'm wondering what I oughta do, Usually I'm dreaming about someone like you. Usually. Usually the weather's bad and the bus is late, Usually the love story turns to hate, Usually that special offer just can't wait. It's not unusual, usually. Usually I'm wondering what I oughta do, Usually I'm dreaming about someone like you. Usually. Usually your money has all been blown, Usually there's an overwhelm of people on the phone, No one understands you and you're feeling all alone, Or overcrowded, usually. Usually I'm wondering what I oughta do, Usually I'm dreaming about someone like you. Usually.

Reality Song 02:30
The tree stretches into the sky, It's really rather tall, And you're already off the ground but really rather small, And outside on the street of life your back's against the wall. I'd really like to tell you how I hear and feel and see, I really want to share with you some real reality. Clock ticktocking out there in the hall, Although I think it speaks to me, It says nothing at all, I'm sitting here all by myself upon my little bed, Composing compositions as they ramble through my head, Some come out like this one, And some come out like that, Walking in the street there is a very cool caterwauling round a lamppost, As all the girls go by, The peacock sings and flaunts his wings, It makes you want to sigh. I'd really like to tell you how I hear and feel and see, I really want to share with you some real reality. La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la.

Plastic plants, what about real plants? I saw the fake ones at the store. People must want them, people must buy them, I don't want to see any more. Where does all the plastic go? Into the sea, into the sea. How does it get there, who threw it away? Was it you or was it me? It's not hunting that will kill the last whale, Plastic will do it, it's a very sad tale, And all the albatrosses, they're dying out too, They keep on fishing in the ocean's plastic stew. Where does all the plastic go? Into the sea, into the sea. How does it get there, who threw it away? Was it you or was it me? The plastic bag I bought, It very quickly broke, If it ever gets burned there'll be poisonous smoke. Where does all the plastic go? Into the sea, into the sea. How does it get there, who threw it away? Was it you or was it me? Plastic kills the turtles and it's eaten by the fish, Plastic's in the food-chain, And the dinner on your dish. Where does all the plastic go? Into the sea, into the sea. How does it get there, who threw it away? Was it you or was it me?

Girl Singer 03:20
I first saw you standing in the spotlight, Standing lovely, lonely on that cold night, I saw you singing, singing through the moonlight, I saw you sparkle, I saw you sparkle bright. I saw you there, singing your heart out, I saw you singing through the clamour of these fools, And you delivered something special, on that special night. Now I can hear you, and I can see you, You're not alone in the wilderness, You're not alone in this sea of madness, You're not alone in the music biz. You are not alone. Girl singer, where are you now? I need to find you across this crowded city, I need to find you across these desperate bars, I need to find you through the halls and clubs of loneliness, I need to find you on the road of falling stars. I need to find you through all the teeming millions, I need to find you through electric storms and dark, I need to find you through all our crazy pathways, I need to find you from right across the world. Right across the world. Girl singer, where are you now? Hear me calling. Girl singer, where are you now?

I'm sick of all of this frustration, I think it's time for a demonstration, I'm tired of living in a failing nation, With the bad news of tomorrow, The bad news of tomorrow. A citizen of Earth is who I am, I'm gonna get by any way I can, A citizen of worth is what I am, Not just another number in this land. The news stories just make you sick, Everybody's looking for a dog to kick, If you're looking for luck, then take your pick, Here's another incredible prize draw, Another incredible prize draw. A citizen of Earth is who I am, I'm gonna get by any way I can, A citizen of worth is what I am, Not just another number in this land. I'm tired of all these envelopes, That take away your money, and take away your hopes, If you're not rich, how can you cope, Under commercial exploitation, Under commercial exploitation? A citizen of Earth is who I am, I'm gonna get by any way I can, A citizen of worth is what I am, Not just another number in this land. The Roman Empire was much like today, Patricians and Plebeians and social decay, Until the fires burned it all away, The ghost of Nero's still fiddling, The ghost of Nero's still fiddling. A citizen of Earth is who I am, I'm gonna get by any way I can, A citizen of worth is what I am, Not just another number in this land.

Ever Yours 04:20
It was on a summer's day, not long ago That I met my girl, and I love her so. Was it because she looked so fine, Or the way that she smiled, That left me so enraptured, totally beguiled? Now my days are filled with wonder, And my love's growing still, Ever since I surrendered and I always will. Is it because of the little things she does, Or the way that she smiles, That leaves me so enraptured, totally beguiled? Now my love I want to tell you, how much I need you so, And how I lived without you, I'll never know. Was it how you came to me, Or the way that you smiled, That left me so enraptured, totally beguiled, I'm ever yours enraptured, totally beguiled.

Living Book 02:55
What has been written and spoken has been misheard and misread, When you try to help and love and show, They only hurt your head. Should I say I am loyal, Should I say I am true, Would you tell me something different, will I ever see through you? I am a living book, read me, So are you, take a look, I'll read you too. I am transparent but no ghost, I am no angel or demon, just your host, Can you answer my questions, Can you hazard a guess? If I told you that I loved you, would it leave you in a mess? I am a living book, read me, So are you, take a look, I'll read you too. We put on smiles and social graces, How absurd our changing faces. We put on smiles and social graces, Never mind our changing faces. We put on smiles and changing faces, How absurd our social graces, Changing faces, changing faces, social graces, changing faces. I am a living book, read me, So are you, take a look, I'll read you too.

about

Songs of the Now and Then is a collection of old songs in fresh arrangements and new songs too, hence the album's title. Environmental protest songs, Where Does All The Plastic Go? and The Nightingale, are very topical and very much "Songs of the Now."
